What are SPY premarket levels?

SPY premarket levels are reference prices, such as overnight highs and lows, support and resistance, and the prior close, that traders mark before the cash session. Because SPY barely trades overnight, the best record of where the market went is the ES futures contract, which trades nearly 24 hours.

LiquidityLevels reads the ES overnight session, identifies the levels the market respected or rejected, and translates each into an approximate SPY price (ES divided by roughly 10). The briefing also describes structure: where price sits in its range, the trend sequence, and how it reacted at key levels.

Why overnight futures matter

  • SPY options are closed overnight, so the gap and the first minutes of the day are decided by what ES already did.
  • Strikes, spreads and risk are chosen in SPY terms, so the futures level has to be translated before it is useful.
  • Overnight highs, lows and the prior close often act as the first reference points after the open.

How the levels are derived

Each briefing is generated before the Asia, London and US session opens from recorded chart observations on ES (and NQ or ES for cross-reference): where price sits in the visible range, the trend sequence, how it reacted around key levels, and the scheduled events ahead. Levels are then translated into SPY terms using a reference ratio of about 10 (ES points per SPY dollar). The ratio drifts with futures basis and dividends, so the result is an approximation. See how the translation works.

Frequently asked questions

What are SPY premarket levels?
Reference prices (overnight high and low, support, resistance, prior close) marked before the 9:30 ET open. For SPY they are derived from ES futures, which trade overnight, and translated into approximate SPY prices.
How do you get SPY levels from ES?
Divide the ES price by roughly 10. The ratio drifts with futures basis and dividends, so the result is an approximation. The ES to SPY converter does it for you.
Is this a signal to buy or sell SPY?
No. These are informational reference levels, not trade signals or advice.
